Engineering Services

The strategic goal of the ERIN Engineering and Research, Inc. (ERIN), an SKF Group Company, Application Engineering team is to provide expert consulting in specific technical areas and integrate ERIN's reliability and maintenance technologies into effective client solutions. The team is a multi-disciplinary group of engineers and computer professionals providing programs and services.

Design Basis Management

ERIN is actively engaged in nuclear industry efforts to streamline the design basis (USARs and DBDs) and leverage technology to enhance the usability and configuration management of this important client issue. ERIN supports design basis documentation review and upgrade efforts. The senior level design and licensing experience of ERIN personnel brings effective capability to these issues. At the front of our design basis capability is our ATLAS™ software product. The ATLAS software facilitates the retention of client 50.54(f) and plant restart design basis reviews for future configuration management. Use of the ATLAS software enables significant leveraging of client investments in personnel experience, documentation development and computer technology in pursuit of technical excellence.ERIN provides services for:

  • ATLAS software implementation
  • DB Issue Program Consulting
  • USAR Rebaselining/Streamlining
  • DB Issue Corrective Action
Fire Safety Assessment

Fire protection requirements for U.S. nuclear power stations are in transition from a purely deterministic compliance approach to a risk-informed approach. ERIN has completed numerous detailed fire PRA (FPRA) assessments. The successful integration of compliance and risk-informed approaches requires the blending of expertise in traditional deterministic Appendix R compliance, probabilistic risk assessments, electrical and mechanical plant system analysis, and fire modeling technologies. ERIN has successfully blended these attributes to provide Fire Protection Program enhancements that balance deterministic compliance requirements with fire risk insights to allow risk-informed decision making.  The ARC™ software product provides an interactive and innovative environment for developing and documenting Appendix R compliance strategies.ERIN provides services for:

  • FPRA development
  • Fire modeling analysis
  • FPRA Training
  • Risk-informed Fire Hazard Bases
Hazards Evaluations

As an outgrowth of risk management activities, ERIN has developed capabilities to support facilities handling radioactive and toxic materials with the integration of reliability objectives, regulatory requirements, and evolving industry standards with the need for safe and efficient facility operations. ERIN uses these skills and experience to establish operating requirements and prepare design analyses for industrial facilities and government installations.

Valve Programs

ERIN's motor operated valve (MOV) engineering expertise is unparalleled in the nuclear and power industries. ERIN has participated in the development of client design basis programs, developed test programs, and is currently developing a streamlined program for maintenance of MOV engineering programs. ERIN has developed numerous modification packages to improve actuator output capability and restore margin following the issuance of Limitorque Technical Update 98-01. ERIN's involvement has included revised voltage drop calculations, sizing and selection of new thermal overloads, determination of minimum required and available thrust and/or torque, and revised differential pressure scenarios due to uprate in licensed reactor power levels or other considerations. ERIN supports air operated valve (AOV) programs in several areas, including risk-based categorization based on safety significance (Safety and Reliability) and other ranking criteria, and performance of design basis reviews.

ERIN provides engineering consulting and software development services in support of the development of check valve condition monitoring programs consistent with the ASME OM Code. ERIN assists in valve grouping, analysis of test and maintenance data, identification of necessary performance improvement activities, determination of test and/or examination methods and intervals, and program documentation.

Engineering Consulting

ERIN offers full-scope, multi-disciplinary engineering services, including AC/DC distribution system modeling and analyses, single failure/FMECA studies, thermal-hydraulic modeling and consequence analyses. These capabilities also support ERIN's design services. Design packages suitable for field implementation, with full consideration of regulatory and industry standards are delivered to meet client specifications. Top of Page
